Issues surrounding the impact and management of e-waste (electronic and electrical equipment -WEEE) in the informal sector in Kenya have received increasing attention in recent years from many stakeholders questioning the management process in the sector. This attention brought about the birth of E-waste Initiative, Kenya.
We are a Non Governmental Organization dealing with informal e-waste management. From the growing volumes and categories of E-waste used by modern society, and the rapid turnover of E-waste in Kenya with the accompanying burden on the waste stream, E-waste initiative Kenya has taken important steps to reduce on negative effects emanating from the occurrence of toxic chemicals in many E-waste components that can pose a risk to human and environmental health through public awareness of “e-waste” and adaptation of latest best practices on e-waste management issues.
